over the past few months i've cut my dosage down to 10mm a day. started a new job and stuck to this dosage. luckily they have an espresso machine at my new job. so anytime the adderall would wear off, i'd make a latte and would wake right up again. the past two weeks i've been been pretty stressed due to staying out late/not getting enough sleep/work and have been taking an extra 5mm on top of the 10mm. this added to stress because i told myself i quit that habit taking more than my normal dosage.

two days ago i ran out of adderall and decided i will not ask for another refill. might as well not! im pretty much down to 10mm (some days 15mm) and feel like i should go cold turkey before i keep on upping my dosage.

Oh goooood i hate this fight with this addiction. i hate adderall. i hate that i've started smoking cigarettes.

I've been STRESS EATING like crazy, i know its because im not suppressing my hunger anymore. and on top of that eating so poorly. today i tried working out and got tired so quickly. it depresses me. i don't want to fall into depression again.

what are some foods which helped with overall mental clarity and energy? please help.

I love this community so much. Thanks for always being here <3

Hi sadderall

i recently relapsed after quitting for ten months I totally get how you're feeling. I have quit again and Running is really the main thing that helps my mood stay elevated. Or any form of exercise where you are moving often. I tried l tyrosine and didn't notice much. I also used caffeine quite a bit but it makes me anxious so I will take gaba (an amino acid) to relax and that helps with stress eating. Try cutting gluten and sugar from your diet if possible and it sounds obvious but sticking to Whole Fruits and vegetables is the best thing you can do. I'm no expert I've quit and relapsed, but it's worth it the sleep you're catching up on alone will make you feel better. Also check out some of peter Bregins work on what adderall and amphetamines do to your brain...it's enough to keep you off. Toddlers on amphetamines is a great documentary

I personally think its okay to stress eat when you're quitting. Because quitting is more important. And the weight gain from eating a whole carton of ice cream is worth it if you can quit long term. Obviously the healthier you eat with nutrients - vegetables, fruits, salads, whole grains, the more energy and mental clarity you'll have. I know that sounds pretty obvious. I've been on a stress eating binge with moving to manhattan and its not fun. Hang in there.

Wow, i didnt know about Peter Bregin. Looks like he's written a lot of books on this topic. I always find reading literature about how its messing up the chemicals in my brain as extra motivating to quit. Its so unnatural. What kind of books have you read where he discusses ritalin, adderall, stimulant effects on your brain chemistry?

Hi Greg,

i originally read psychiatric drug withdrawal, where he gives advice on quitting safely. It is not specific to adderall or Ritalin, he also talks a lot about anti depressants, anti psychotics and benzodiazepines. He basically is claiming these drugs are a form of chemical lobotomy. It's really scary especially since so many of these patients are children!

Thank you so much for your support. I've been listening to Peter Brigins videos as I get ready for work. They really help me realize why it's worth quitting.

Yesterday all I did was stay in and eat any chance I got but then I realized how I was stress eating and just went outside to take a walk. Cutting gluten has always been something I've wanted to try. I'll look into it.

As for sleeping, I've been doing it so much. But I guess it's just my body catching up on sleep i've been missing out on.

Thank you so much for you help megan. Stay strong.

You're so right. I can completely stress eat no matter what food it is. I just need to put fruits in veggies in front of my face instead of popsicles and chips.

Ooooh congrats on your move to manhattan!

Hi Sadderall - I hope you are feeling better.  Have you tried L-Tyrosine? It is an amino acid supplement.  I take Jarrow Formulas 500 milligram version and they are an effin lifesaver!!!

Seriously - You can buy them at Sprouts/Whole Foods/or the natural food store in your area.  I sometimes get them off of Amazon - to try that if you can't find them in stores.  I take 3 first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.  I also take a few more 1 hour after lunch to help me finish up my day. The key is the empty stomach.

Hope this helps - hang in there and remember - THIS WILL PASS - THE SHITTIEST TIMES ALWAYS PASS
