Want to quit but need help!

Hi,

This is my first time posting here on this site. I came here the other day and was a bit scared by all the information, especially the sleeping part in the beginning of quitting.

I have been taking this drug for about 3 years. When I first get the prescription I always take too many and pay for it with health problems such as bronchitis and insomnia. The anxiety now is out of control because my husband found I am taking this and is threatening to leave if I ever take it again.

The first week is great I always get things done but now I am into my second week where I am going on my second day with no sleep and cant get things done. i haven't even walked my poor little dogs.

The more I think about quitting the more I seem to want to take the pills. My husband is watching me like a hawk too and has caught me more than once.

I really want to want to quit more than anything. Any support at all on this would be greatly appreciated!

Marie I suggest you do what I did late last year and start reading the stories people have posted about their experiences quitting. I was surprised and inspired by the similarities - that was a good starting point for me. It gave me insight into what to expect and how to cope with the recovery process.

Hey there,

Thank you for your input guys! Well, I am on day 1o now of being off that evil medicine!! The first and second day off it were not fun at all. I was shaking non-stop and couldn't even function. I went into an awful depression and even searched my place crazily looking for a leftover pill.

Once I realized there were none left, I began to accept that it was over. Day by day I have been feeling better and Sunday was an awesome day. I went to visit relatives and actually had energy and was able to communicate--thinking before I spoke. Yesterday (day 9) I seemed to have a physical setback and just got through the day. Today I am feeling much better, but I realize I had better watch the coffee consumption.

Folks, I am 52 years old and I thank God that I am able to recover from this stuff as I was doing 160 mgs on some days. I am done with this medication and I hope you will be soon too!

Congratulations for quitting! Lots of ups and downs in early adderall recovery. I suggest keeping lots of coffee, L-tyrosine, vitamins and good food on hand all summer long. I bet you are so relieved to be done with this awful addiction and let the healing process begin. Please keep us updated how you are doing in your recovery and welcome to the forums!

wow, I cant believe it is just under a month since I quit that horrendous drug!! It seems like so much longer.  Although I can remember the tremendous feeling I had on the first day I picked up my pills but it always went quickly downhill from there.  I could control it for for about 2 days and then it went haywire to where i was always taking way too many.  I can not tell you what a relief it is not to spend the $300.00 it was costing me to get it, that was supposed to last 3 months but it never did. I did let my doctor know that I am not taking it any longer.  My husband was highly opposed to it and was ready to leave me, I tried to hide it from him but he always figured it out.  In the early days it did give me an enthusiasm for life that I have never had before and may never have again but I have accepted that. I have come to appreciate the calm feeling that I have now as opposed to being stressed out and sick with a sore throat, bronchitis and whatever else the stuff would cause.  So, I hope this brings a little comfort to anyone who is contemplating quitting or has just recently quit.  It does get better and in my case quite quickly.  Best wishes to all of you!!!!!!!!!
