jaymeyer26
Hey all - day 30 has come and gone! Today is day 32 and I am still rolling! We don't have a baby yet, but things are getting close, so that is why my posting has been sporadic. I feel awesome about reaching 30 days and could never have done it without the support on this site, so thank you all so much. I still have rough days, but overall I am starting to really find myself again and am enjoying the small and random things in life so much more. I know fatherhood is going to be so much more amazing when I can give all of myself to my baby once she arrives! I think my biggest challenge, believe it or not, has been diet and weight. I think my brain is so geared towards addiction that I have been craving sugars and nasty foods for the past month or so. I have also put on about 8 lbs. (which can also be attributed to partaking in all of my wife's pregnancy cravings, I must admit). Yesterday I pledged that since I am past the 30-day mark that I needed to focus on what I'm eating. I am going to try and cut out the nasty stuff that my brain thinks it wants. I am hopeful that soon this will help me feel even better. I am looking forward to crossing the 60-day threshold with you all - I may need to find a good place to do that on the site. Any thoughts?? Thanks!

JustinW
Congratulations on passing the 30 day mark Jay, being a daddy to a little girl is a monumentally difficult and rewarding experience. They are different than us and have completely opposite needs from what we are used to as men. Good luck; I'm sure that you will be an awesome father! Jon
Hello Everyone Well I went to my first Hiking Therapy session today. I know hiking therapy sounds odd to some but here in L.A. It's not! It was close to 90 today so hiking all year round is common here. He is a Life Coach psychologist with a specialty in Addiction. Anyways it was so much better than I thought it was going to be. His focus is on the overall health of the person. He's direct no B.S. And gave me a lot of insight. The one thing I have to get is a support system that I can reach when I am triggered. I told him about I only have one right now my faceless website/forum... Lolol so do be surprised by my random vents! I am going to work on getting some here although that will hard since I am not fond of AA or NA. I wish I could share everything he shared but it would be a 10 page post. Thank you I feel because of all of you I am finally headed in the right direction. I cannot wait to encourage others someday On here:))) Hey LuckyD, It's already been said, but you are encouraging others! I love the hiking therapy. I had to haul myself out of bed today for a dentist appointment. I was exhausted, but I had time to kill before going to work at 3 PM. I drove into the park to get my 2014 State park sticker and figured heck man, your here. I managed to find about 90 minutes worth of snow cleared paths to wander. Even though I'm still tired now, I feel really good about getting out and breathing some fresh air and getting some exercise. I would love to hear more about what your life coach psychologist had to say. My biggest challange is getting out of bed while working the off shifts. Having that frightening feeling that I'll miss the dentist appointment does the trick, but what can I use to motivate myself when I don't have any commitment?
Jon
Congratulations Jay on completing your first 30+ days. I might as well say it now: Congratulations to you and wife on your new baby. I can't think of a better reason to stay sober.
Luckyducky
Jon- Did you read the part where my phy said that be abusing drugs I created a pathway that craves the rush. Because on addy were were always really Up or really down so midway ( like normal people) feels boring and we feel unmotivated. So we have to find something we are passionate about that creats endorphins . It's kinda of like feeding your dragon while getting positive and healthy benefits. So I am still searching but he is an addiction specialist and an ex addict himself so who knows. I love music I thought about making a playlist I love and try hiking alone. I envy you not having to get out of bed.. I would love to sleep in the next 3 weeks. My work though is my excape right now. Are you still working or retired. Whats your passion? It could be anything. I want to run a half marathon. I have a ways to go. Lol thanks john:)
spxd
Day 8, cold turkey after 25-30mg daily for 3 years. (25 XR, 5 IR) Had a panic attack on the third day. Still kind of sluggish. Not enough coffee in the universe

spxd
Thanks! If I leave Spotify on the techno station and bounce my leg, it's sort of like being on Adderall—for brief stretches of time, at least.
JustinW
Thanks! It's...not super pleasant. It takes time to heal but you'll get there.
GDTRFB
I'm not sure if this thread is still alive....but I hope everyone that was writing on here is still doing well. Today is day 5 for me. I feel awful and have no motivation, but at least I didn't take that evil orange pill. Ugh!
Freedom's Wings
Gdtrfb, Welcome! And yes this thread is very much alive. Welcome to the 30 day challenge! You can do it, I wish you much success. Give yourself some slack around this time, things will ease up, trust me.

I feel awful and have no motivation, but at least I didn't take that evil orange pill. Ugh! I'm on day 18. The first week was bad, but I went back to "normal" (which I define as not being able to sleep all day, even if I tried) after it. I was actually surprised at how quickly it seemed to pass, considering that I'd been taking it nearly every day.
GDTRFB
Thanks freedom's wings! Glad to hear it spxd! All I want to do is sleep, however when I do get a bit of energy...I am plagued with anxiety. In a word, I am miserable.
SweetCarolinee
Great job Gdtrfb. Don't worry -- that misery will pass. Hang in there. Allow yourself to heal and recover! And sleep. I've been sleeping 12 hours a night since quitting.
JustinW
Congratulations to you both on your decision to quit and thank you for posting about it! @gdtrfb - It's not an easy road in the beginning but it will get better. In the meantime, savor your couch and bed. What does the name stand for? It takes just about all my concentration to remember it without a mnemonic. *edit* - I see now that it's a Greatful Dead reference @SPXD - you are already 60% of the way there!
GDTRFB
Day 6 - I was feeling good earlier today. I was being so silly - singing and playing with my puppy...for a moment I felt like the old me was shining through. I cherish these moments. @SweetCaroline - thanks for your kind words. They mean more to me than you can imagine. I also really like the following quote in your signature - "Dwelling on the negative simply contributes to it's power" @JustinW - Thanks for your support as well. It's amazing how powerful kind words on a message board can be, when you're going through a rough time. You are right about the rough road in the beginning. My username is indeed a Grateful Dead reference that describes how I feel right now, which is Going Down the Road Feeling Bad. Please excuse my poor grammar and ramblings...writing is very difficult for me right now.
JustinW
Writing and reading are both difficult during recovery; we all struggle with it. Keep up the good work!
GDTRFB
Day 8 - was a bit rough, but it's another day Adderall free! So tired tonight. Goodnight, kind people of the interwebz. Using a Z in a word..makes me young, right? silly me...
JustinW
Silly wabbit "Z"'s are for kidz, LOLZ but Nyquil will help you get your Z's I suppose too; maybe Zerokewl will chime in? Way to go getting through day 8, I know it's tough but you can do this!
