  1. We started my daughter on ADHD meds when she was 6 years old.  When I quit Adderall, I took her off of her Concerta, too.  We used to say that she was very immature and delayed emotionally compared to her friends and classmates.  I really believe that she stopped progressing at 6 years old with the introduction of the stimulants.  Almost two years later, she is starting to mature and acts more like a 10 or 11 year old.  She is 13, but still immature compared to the other kids.  I am just grateful that she is progressing.  All of this is to say that I know how scary it must be to start living without the thing that made you who you are.  BUT, you can be anything you want to be and without Adderall you will find out what that is.  Best choice we ever made!  No more stimulants, ever.

  2. Part of the addiction for me was taking a pill every morning.  I tried caffeine pills and herbal supplements, until finally I quit taking them all.  It was like smoking was for me...every part of smoking was addictive.  Getting the pack ready to open, sniffing the new cigarettes, lighting it up, watching the smoke as I blew it out...I had to quit it all.  You all know I quit everything cold turkey, but I continued to try to find a pill to take every morning for several months.  Should have stopped it cold turkey, too...

  3. How exciting for you to get to discover yourself!  Because that is what you are about to do.  Who are you?  Even without the Adderall years, you would be a different person at 29 than you were at 11.  So...go figure it out.  Give yourself some time to recover without any pressure to "be" anything for now.  Then, when you are ready, find a hobby.  Start getting out there, and find yourself.  I am so happy for your 6 days clean!  You can do this!  Welcome to the site!

  4. I think the improvement in sex drive may be mainly for women.  I think it has a lot to do with the emotional requirements for women to have sex.  No emotional desire=no sexual desire for a lot of us ladies.  Adderall, therefore, causes sex drive to go down for us.  When the emotions return, so does desire to be intimate.  I am no expert...just a theory of mine.  Men are completely different, so I can see how the removal of Adderall would cause different issues for y'all.

As for the weight gain, your metabolism has been knocked back to sloth times...even if you were not one before Adderall.  It takes time to rebuild it.  Without Adderall, you will never have a hummingbird's metabolism again.  However, you can be a normally functioning human being.  It just takes time and effort. Stick to the exercise and eat right...you will be there before you know it!

Great job on 3 months.  It was my most difficult time, as well.

  5. Your inner addict tells you that you are better on the pills.  It is lying to you.  You may think you are better, but everyone around you notices that you are not yourself.  You may be thin, but you are unhealthy.  You may be able to work harder, but it is less quality.  That is what I mean by it being a lie.  Also, you have to continue to increase the dose to keep it working the same.  I quit rather than increase my dose again.  I didn't want the psychosis and volatile mood swings anymore.  Or the anhedonia...it feels good to laugh again.

  6. The desire to eat constantly does go away, but it takes a while for your metabolism to recover enough to start losing the weight.  The best advice I can give is to get active as soon as you feel like you can stand it.  Go for walks, do a few jumping jacks.  Good luck with that though...it took me over 10 months to feel like I wanted to exercise and longer than that to actually do it.  Good news is, the weight will come off eventually.   Let yourself heal, don't go back to the Adderall, and worry about the weight in a few months.  Try to limit the carbs while you are recovering, too.  I know it is easier said than done.  I craved carbs constantly in the beginning of my quit.  I gained 40 pounds in the first 4 months after I quit.  I am within 5  pounds of my pre quit weight.  Finally.  But, I am 25 pounds from my ideal weight.  I had started gaining even with the Adderall.  It happens eventually.  Might as well quit while you are young and it is easier to rebuild your metabolism.

Good luck and welcome to the forum!
