  1. Thanks so much QO. This is really interesting and also a patch of your background I didn't know about. I tried the Atkins approach a few years ago and lost a few lbs but probably didn't focus on portion control - I don't think you're supposed to eat 3 whole salamis in one sitting!! I think your insight in to treating food like any other addiction is a brilliant insight, and I really really am going to ponder it. I found it (relatively) easy to quit adderall, because I knew in order to live I had no choice. But food, well you need food to live. I've never won that battle really.
  2. Hey Ashley, WATCH THIS! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/amy-cuddy/body-language_b_2451277.html Best confidence booster ever. Really.
  3. oh that's right, it's supposed to be awesome news. Uhm, let me have a think and come back to you...
  4. The earth's hottest years on record have all occurred since 1998. 2012 was the hottest year ever recorded.
  5. Quit Once, how did you arrive at that healthy place? Was it a difficult time of transition for you or have you always been a healthy eater? Also sky, you're vegan. Not sure if I could go that far right now but I realized the other day that the only meat I eat is chicken, and sometimes fish, and I don't really even like it very much, so I could quite easily become vegetarian. How did you get there sky? Are you happy with your eating habits now? Anyone else who has gone from junk food junkie to healthy, how'd you do it? Love to get some wisdom here...
  6. Searchingsoul yours is such a positive story. You should be so proud of yourself. I'd love to say my story was similar but it hasn't. I missed the chance to "reboot" with healthy foods and exercise, and I've basically given up looking after myself. What do I do now? So tiring to start to climb another huge hill and face all those demons....
  7. Today I learned about this little concept called perspective. http://htwins.net/scale2/
  8. What an accomplishment! Can you come over and do my house now? Honestly though, the mention of you flicking the pill in to the toilet bowl genuinely made me do a little "yesssss!!" and clench my fish. You should feel so good about your self. Sounds like delightful company, by the way...
  9. I'm with you, Ashley. I have very disordered eating patterns. I can cook but I hate to (actually I don't mind cooking but I hate cleaning up afterwards) and believe it or not when you're cooking for 1-2 people it is more expensive than it is to get takeout in this city. But I've gained 15lbs and I hate myself for it. I need a diet and fitness buddy!
  10. I was finally listening to some music today that actually reminded me of this forum. Here's the verse... so true, huh?! And as we go on through the deal I I know that we won't always feel Real wonderful Life ain't like that But I want to stay right by your side Check out the view enjoy the ride Together With all our loved ones http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tm5xngEaYyY&feature=player_embedded
  11. Alli, I owe you an apology. I haven't seen an instance yet of someone who's managed to go from being in such a stranglehold with adderall to freedom by the step down method. It didn't work for me, and I think most of us quit cold turkey which for us was the only way. You showed the most amazing strength through this, more than I think quitting cold turkey in a way, because the temptation seems greater somehow when you know the pills are there if you want them. Congratulations on 48 hours clean, you are on the way to recovery. Your brain will thank you in a just a short period of time. Allow it to heal!
  12. That's fascinating! (btw it's weird, as soon as I saw that picture I wanted chocolate... ahh the power of the mind). Today I learned in studies on stress levels of baboons in natural colonies in Africa, the weaker, lower-pecking-order baboons suffer from high blood pressure, pulmonary diseases, reproductive malfunction and usually die earlier. They also have a lower pain tolerance and demonstrate symptoms of depression. They carry weight around their midsection, and produce higher levels of cortisol. Offspring of lower-pecking-order baboons are more likely to die young or be victims of "bullying" by other baboons and be forced out of the colonies.
  13. I love this forum the way it is. I like the fact that the "everything else here for now" has been "for now" forever. I like that when someone is new and "tells their story" we all gather around and help out, and support each other and repeat others' comments and call each other out when we've said something not quite right, but in a nice way. The internet is so full of negativity. I've never seen a forum where there is such genuine care and where people really add value to each other's lives as they go through addiction, recovery and beyond. I have really grown to care about the people on this forum. Like THE FALCON says, we are one awesome dysfunctional family and I wouldn't want it any other way.
  14. I think you were trying to suggest that the forum remains the same, but with increased functionality. Like having gifs as profile pics, and maybe a blog functionality, is that right? I don't disagree, but I do like the simplicity of this site.

  16. Yep, sounds like Ambien to me. So glad to be off that shit. It seriously fucked up my memory. I do miss the sex though. Ambien sex is awesome.
  17. NOOOO! Oh fine. Go fix your problems in the supermarket with all its tidy aisles and organized sock drawers.... When you get tired of the mall, we'll be here in Margaritaville just hangin out and enjoying each other's company.... and putting up with InRecovery's star wars emoticons because they're cute, you know, like a kid's drawing that you put on your fridge. COZ WE IS FAMILY DUDE. And cats suck.
  18. that emoticon is your best yet, IR! I did this weird kind of cackle out loud when I saw it. And who has a couch that purple?! Want to see our weird cousin? http://www.crazymeds.us/CrazyTalk/ and they even have an adderall thread! http://www.crazymeds.us/CrazyTalk/index.php?/forum/87-stimulants/
  19. Thanks everyone, I didn't expect such a barrage of nice words today! It was kind of a throwaway comment from me, I am just sucking it up because I know you can't avoid interviews if you want to get a job! I do believe though that passion is hard to fake. And there are certainly some jobs I can DO, and am perfectly qualitifed for, but I just kind of don't WANT to. Like the one today.... he gave his background blah blah I gave my background blah blah he asked a terribly ambiguous and pretty shitty question and I had to try to find some way of answering it that sounded vaguely intelligent when all I really wanted to say was, "what the fuck are you talking about and what kind of dumbass question is that?!" I don't have a great poker face. I do like the suggestion from you Cassie about acting. I've done it before and it helps. And Occasional 1 that's a great uggestion in fact I come here for my ego boosts! You guys make me feel so much better about myself. If I was taking adderall I'm sure I'd be pacing around the house by now wondering what I could do to redeem myself from that godawful meeting this morning, but right now I'm thinking fuckit, it's snowing, its warm inside and I want to watch some netflix. Thanks so much guys, you are so great at making me feel better!
  20. You'll be ok. Just hang in there. And post here all you like. Redbull, coffee, chocolate, donuts are all allowed so long as they are not adderall. You are lucky to have good friends around you. Stay strong. Thought you might find this interesting, it's something I wrote when feeling a bit like you are now:
  21. Thanks InRecovery, that means a lot. I'm feeling a bit down today to be honest because I'm just getting a little tired of interview upon interview upon interview. I am in a better place mentally but I've had 4 interviews this week, of which 1 over the phone and one by skype which was today. I hate skype interviews, they are always disjointed and poorly connected and you never get a good sense of flow like you do when you meet someone live. But anyway I'm just kind of bored of it all. I need a new job, but talking about myself for even 30 mins bores me to tears and I'm sure it's beginning to show. Anyone got any good suggestions as to how not to become bored with telling your own story over and over and over again? I'd make a terrible politician...
  22. Ha ha that reminds me of a funny story. One day at work we were trying to figure out a time that worked for a global team to have a conference call. Someone about 4 desks away from me stood up and said, "what time is it in ASIA"? I fell about laughing and she had no idea why... So, sorry about that, I'm thinking 8-9pm EST... does that work for everyone?
  23. InRecovery, You've been off the grid schoolwise for some time now, right? Are your other classmates recent graduates of other programs? I'm sure it's just a matter of getting in the flow of school again. And honestly, there is NOTHING you can do about that test now, so may as well learn what you can from it and let it go. That's what I'm saying about all these interviews I'm having... try my best and forget the rest. I'm sure you did brilliantly. Really.
