  1. Congratulations InRecovery! I hope that I will be able to do the same here next semester.
  2. I love all of the Marvel comic movies, well Iron Man 3 wasn't as good as the others but that's asking a lot for the third in a trilogy. Going back to work after a 3 day weekend can give me a case of nerves so I feel you on that one. Just stick to it and you'll be back in the swing of things in no time! I'm back to Day 1 because of the flu for the past 2 days. I removed the snow from the driveway and sidewalk then I played with the kids in the snow for 5 minutes. The -15 degree windchill caught up with us at that point so it was inside for hot cocoa.
  3. Nothing I say is original, it's a paraphrase from The Simpsons but I thought it was applicable to the current situation.
  4. Actually, I liked the interior design and the fact that the door jams were all covered to prevent rust. I was looking at used (2008 40k miles), not new and I know that how the vehicle is cared for makes all the difference. The interior was trashed by kids and carseats (light color leather + kids = bad). I looked underneath it and saw yellow paint marker on some frame members probably meaning that it had been in a wreck and they were parts from a salvage yard. It also didn't have 3rd row seating which was a requirement for my wife. I really tried to sell myself on it but it wasn't meant to be. If it is well cared for, it's quick enough for you, and it meets your mission then I don't see a good reason why you would walk away from it. The used car market is about the individual vehicle and not so much about make and model. Vortech 4200 inline 6 = 6 cylinder engine that is used in the Envoy, Trailblazer, Ranier, and Canyon. It has some really stupid design quirks that make it so maintenance can get really expensive. For example, you have to pull the engine out of the vehicle to replace the oil seal on the front cover.
  5. Who will you get to go to Applebees with you and listen to your stories?
  6. Day 3 - 42 minutes of Wii Fit Plus and I'm down almost 3# for the week! The SRX has a lot of things going for it (like not using the Vortech 4200 inline 6), the one that I test drove was garbage. The engine sounded like a coffee grinder (V6) and acceleration was less than stellar. I suspect that the V8 version is the one to buy if it has AWD. For similar money you can get an Acadia without the Cadillac markup. The Suzuki version of the Acadia is the real bargain because Suzuki has such a bad reputation; don't be fooled, it is the same vehicle. I decided that I was done with GM (the Corvette is my only exception) due to the poor quality of my Envoy so I ended up with a Toyota Highlander.
  7. The recovery process is non-linear; have patience and just work at taking life as it comes to you right now. You will wake up one day and realize that you had some major break through and it will be a pleasant surprise. Focus on acting like a human being and not a human doing.
  8. Rich - I read this today: "E. Stanley Jones tells about a poor man who had an overnight guest, and as he showed him to his humble bedroom in the hayloft he said, 'If there is anything you want, let us know, and we’ll come and show you how to get along without it.' We don’t need to learn how to get more, but how to get along with what we’ve got, and get on with the business of living."

    Day 1

Welcome aboard and congratulations on your decision to quit! Everyone recovers at a different pace so I can't say how long it will take to get back to normal. Reading your post made me greatful that I mainly used XR and only occasionally used the IR version. I can see how it is easier to get addicted to the instant release. I wish you a speedy recovery and I suggest joining the 30 day challenge because it has been a real benefit for those who have taken it.
  10. Careful with drinking, I have noticed lately that I am able to drink more but the problem is that alcohol is a depressant and it can put you into a funk the next day. This funk could lead to a relapse if you don't handle it properly. I gained 25 pounds this year and I feel your pain regarding the binge eating. I made a promise to myself this week "No eating after 6pm". I had 1 Ritz cracker last night at 9:30 but that is it. So far, it looks like I might be down 2 pounds but I don't want to jinx it as it could just be a fluctuation. You will find your way back and you will find an improved, stronger version of yourself when you come out the other side of this mess. Don't be too focused on being a mess though, we are all a mess; nobody has it all worked out, nobody. Thanks for staying on here and participating in the community.
  11. Maybe you could be proactive with your friend and tell her never to give it to you, that way the temptation will be removed. I have been off a little over 10 months.
  12. For Day 2 I worked on my plane for an hour in the basement but I wasn't completely satisfied that it was active enough to meet the challenge so I did 40 crunches, tried to see if my shoulder could handle pushups (it couldn't), and I ended with 3 repetitions of shoulder strengthening exercises on each side.
  13. Jon, I would like to join you in this journey - say the next 30 days? If we started yesterday, my day 1 included shoveling the sidewalk and snowblowing the driveway. I think I have a SLAP tear in my left shoulder 'cause the pain was excrutiating. I really need to lose this extra 20 lbs. and I think that this would be a good way to do it.
  14. If you find out where he is, we will go there together and take him out. I am well armed.
  15. Perhaps you could guide us on how you came to your answers for step #1 - I've always sucked at putting lists together that describe me at any period in time.
  16. You are keeping up with the snow? That's a whole lot better than I. I just couldn't drag myself out to the driveway last night.
  17. "Get some sour cream and onion chips with some dip, man, some beef jerky, some peanut butter. Get some Häagen-Dazs ice cream bars, a whole lot, make sure chocolate, gotta have chocolate, man. Some popcorn, red popcorn, graham crackers, graham crackers with marshmallows, the little marshmallows and little chocolate bars and we can make s'mores, man. Also, celery, grape jelly, Cap'n Crunch with the little Crunch berries, pizzas. We need two big pizzas, man, everything on 'em, with water, whole lotta water, and Funyons" "And what was that thing we used to eat back in the day?" Sorry, but that is one of my favorite all time movies, up there with Super Troopers, Office Space, and Idiocracy
